In Kinshasa, it runs several programs: a community house, the Saint-Paul student residence, the Sainte-Christine parish, and its school. About sixty kilometers northeast of the capital, in Menkao, it also runs the Ubuntu Spiritual Center.  <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Kinshasa, brotherhood is lived out with great intensity every day. Father Thomas Pr\u00e9vost, a priest and director of the mission for 18- to 30-year-olds, lives in the community house. He describes a fraternal life \u201cto the power of ten.\u201d His mission is carried out through an association founded by the community, which provides social services to street children.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At this same mission site, three brothers and sisters from the community\u2014who live outside the community house\u2014are employed there and share an office with him.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dam.chemin-neuf.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-06-10-at-14.00.55-edited.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25009\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Youth Mission Meeting in Kinshasa<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For Father Doudou Nduelo, country director for the Chemin Neuf Community, fraternal bonds are a way to \u201cstep outside of oneself to encounter others.\u201d Fraternal life allows him \u201cto go further in welcoming others, even those who are more difficult for me to accept. It also broadens my perspective on my neighbor,\u201d he acknowledges. <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>A missionary zeal fueled by the bonds that have been forged<\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Kinshasa, community members share many moments of daily life. Frequent invitations to the homes of brothers and sisters who live outside the community house foster a sense of brotherhood and sisterhood on a daily basis. The proximity of the community\u2019s various locations \u201creinforces the impression that all community members live in the same neighborhood,\u201d Doudou points out. And, he adds, \u201cour missionary zeal is nourished by the fact that we are together.\u201d   <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p><em>&#8220;I think there wouldn&#8217;t be a mission if it weren&#8217;t for the sense of brotherhood here in Kinshasa.&#8221;<\/em><\/p><cite>Thomas Prevost, priest of the Chemin Neuf community<\/cite><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As for social missions, <em>\u201cI think there wouldn\u2019t be any missions if there weren\u2019t a sense of brotherhood in Kinshasa to begin with,\u201d<\/em> Thomas observes.<br\/>\u201cThese various social missions grew out of the life of prayer and fellowship of the first brothers who arrived here. It was because the brothers and sisters were together, praying and seeking God\u2019s will, that the missions began to take shape. That is what I keep in mind every day when I go to the office, and what motivates me in the more thankless tasks I have to take on,\u201d he continues.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For Doudou, the country director, fraternity \u201cis a source of strength and a testimony to the mission.\u201d<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For more than twenty years, these fraternal bonds have continued to sustain the mission. They are nourished by prayer, shared efforts at reconciliation, and mutual encouragement. <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"25021\" src=\"https:\/\/dam.chemin-neuf.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-06-11-at-22.51.21-1024x576.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25021\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Community Gathering<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"25032\" src=\"https:\/\/dam.chemin-neuf.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-06-10-at-14.01.56-1024x627.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25032\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Community Week<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Given the many requests we receive, we must remain vigilant. \u201cThis is all the more necessary because of the daily tasks we handle, which often keep us away from home during the day,\u201d explains Thomas. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although he is often away on weekend assignments as part of his work with young people, he nevertheless makes sure to set aside time for rest and fellowship. \u201cI\u2019ve chosen to be present, as much as possible, for Sunday lunch so I can spend time with the brothers who are at the house,\u201d he says. <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Brotherhood as a Battleground  <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-1 wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBrotherhood is a treasure, but it is also a struggle,\u201d Father Bruno Cador\u00e9 reminded the members during the 2023 chapter meeting of the Chemin Neuf Community.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-2 wp-block-paragraph\">This reality is evident in the community&#8217;s day-to-day life. As a result, certain issues related to the practical and financial aspects of community life are not always easy to address.   <br\/><\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dam.chemin-neuf.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-06-10-at-15.29.42-768x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-24986 size-full\"\/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For Thomas, who is originally from France, community life is both a source of great joy and a demanding learning experience. \u201cEven after six years here, I\u2019m still a foreigner. There are still many aspects of Congolese culture that I haven\u2019t fully embraced. This sometimes leads to misunderstandings, or even frustration. But the advantage of our life together is that dialogue remains possible, and that, as a Frenchman, I don\u2019t hesitate to speak my mind.\u201d    <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;It&#8217;s also easier for an outsider to notice certain cultural quirks, but it&#8217;s never easy to point them out to your brother or sister,&#8221; he says.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Kinshasa, another challenge is to \u201cencourage open communication so that brothers and sisters dare to speak to one another directly and reconcile, rather than talking about one another.\u201d The committed members of the community have known each other for a long time and share a common history. As in any family, relationships can sometimes become strained.
