About the Chemin Neuf Community

The Chemin Neuf Community is a Roman Catholic community with an ecumenical vocation, which works for the renewal of the Church, and for unity and reconciliation worldwide.

Founded in France in 1973, and now present in 24 countries, Chemin Neuf has organised Ecumenical Festivals at the last four World Youth Days, and runs regular Youth Festivals around the world: from eastern European nations like Hungary, Poland and the Czech republic, to African nations such as Mauritius and Ivory Coast, as well as several through the year in France.

Members of Chemin Neuf represent more than a dozen Christian denominations (Anglican, Catholic, Lutheran, Evangelical ...). They include single men and women, celibate brothers and sisters, priests and ministers, and married couples, united in their desire to follow Christ and to serve the church and the world. Many thousands more take part in Chemin Neuf's activites, joining fellowship groups for married couples and young people, or meeting regularly to pray for peace and the unity of Christians.

During WYD08, Chemin Neuf has accepted an invitation by the Catholic Archdiocese of Canberra-Goulburn to provide a praying inter-denominational presence at the Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture. After Canberra, the Chemin Neuf group will be taking part in Sydney WYD08, where they will be running street dance festivals as part of the Sydney Youth Festival program.
